Frequently asked questions about Residential Care

ACAT Assessment prior to admission
Admission to residential care in Australia is on a needs basis with independent assessments made by the Aged Care Assessment Team, (ACAT), which is a group of multi disciplinary health professionals. The assessment is free.
Admission to St Ann’s Homes is through the Southern Tasmanian ACAT which can be contacted,
Mon - Friday, Ph: 03 6222 7274.

Referral to the ACAT can be made by a doctor, family member, advocate or the intending resident.
An appointment time will be made. A member of the ACAT will visit the home of the intending resident, or the hospital, and undertake a careful assessment of needs in consultation with the person and the family. Based on this assessment, the ACAT will notify an individual of their approval for either high care (nursing) or low care (hostel), or that they may not be approved for care. If you are approved for care, the ACAT approval remains valid for twelve months after the date the ACAT approval was signed.
